An SQA Commendation for Instructor Alka Jarvis

Congrats to Software Quality Assurance and Testing instructor Alka Jarvis who has recently earned top commendation for her years of industry service. The board of directors of ASQ recently designated her a Fellow of the Society, a highly distinguished recognition of her significant contributions to quality.

The citation says:

“For exceptional leadership in development of ISO Standards activities in USTAG to ISO/TC176; For outstanding accomplishments in developing, promoting and starting Best Practice Center of Excellence at Cisco and implementing Quality Management Principles at Apple; For contributions in Quality profession work as a practitioner, consultant, university educator, author, auditor and presenter.”

Alka, whose job title at Cisco Systems is “Distinguished Quality Engineer,” is the author of seven books and is a RAB-QSA certified auditor with more than 30 years’ experience in computer programming. She has been chair of the U.S. Technical Committee 176 for the International Standards Organization for nine years and was a former advisory board member for a UCSC Extension certificate program. She is a member of the ASQ Learning Institute Advisory Board, former president of the Bay Area Quality Assurance Association, and has served on the advisory boards of the Quality Assurance Institute, the Indian Business and Professional Women, and UCSC Extension. Previously she worked with Charles Schwab and Apple.

Alka has taught at local universities for more than 20 years and is a recipient of the National Association of Women Business Owners Corporate Woman Advocate of the Year

ASQ will present her with her pin at the 2018 World Conference on Quality and Improvement in Seattle, WA in April.
